...una mujer latina

This is a piece I’ve been wanting to create for quite some time now. Being a Latina woman in today’s society is not an easy task; one where you are in a constant state of alert and fear and where we are constantly looked down upon not only by our male counterparts but the world. However, it is one that pays off and comes with immense amounts of joy, vibrancy and love. Through spoken word and movement, I am telling the stories, experiences, struggles and joys of women that I get to call mentors, family, friends, my support system and more.

[threshold]

looking someone in the eye—it’s somehow both intrusive and vulnerable

This piece is centered around the idea of vulnerability and intrusiveness that can be found within any form of eye contact. I worked in modern and contemporary aesthetics while finding ways to mix in my heritage through aspects of Costa Rican Folklore.

Sororidad en Tu Camino

Co-choreographed with Gianna Dobrich

This duet derives from Paula’s experience as a woman in Latin America and Gianna’s desire to uplift the movement by utilizing research and collaborating with Paula’s perspicacity. Ni Una Menos (Not One (Woman) Less) is a feminist movement born in Argentina, now present in most Latin American countries, out of the frustration of genderbased violence and murder. Within the Gaps

This piece uses underlying themes from the book 1984 by George Orwell and explores the beauty and importance of human connection in a society where it is rare to find genuine interpersonal relationships. The piece also delves into ideas of hiding these authentic bonds for fear of judgment and prejudice.
