Duet selected for
national dance gala

Slippery Rock University students Paula Rodríguez-Alvarez and Gianna Dobrich will perform among the top collegiate dancers in the country.

The duet that they performed and choreographed was chosen, along with approximately 30 other dance pieces, for the American College Dance Association’s 2025 National College Dance Festival, May 2-4, in Washington, D.C.​

Senior Dance BFA Concert showcases student choreography April 25-26

Eleven senior dance majors in Slippery Rock University's Bachelor of Fine Arts program will perform at a concert to showcase their research during the time at SRU.

Paula Rodríguez-Alvarez, from San Rafael, Costa Rica, whose work goes on a journey of ritual, trance, self-discovery and euphoria through rhythmic choreography and movement.

Emerging Artists Dance Concert hits stage Jan. 30 and 31

The Slippery Rock University Dance Department presents its boundary pushing, cutting edge Emerging Artists Dance Concert with two shows, 7 p.m., Jan.  30, and 2 p.m., Jan. 31, at the Performing Arts Center’s Miller Theater

This unique concert is an important tradition in the SRU Dance Department, highlighting the choreography of SRU students and lifting up the creative voices of the next generation of dance artists. This year’s concert offerings are the creations of junior and senior dance majors

Fresh Moves Dance Showcase returns Dec. 5-6

Student choreography and creative achievements will be on display as the Slippery Rock University Dance Department presents the Fresh Moves Dance Showcase Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Stoner West Dance Studio Theater. The showcase will feature nine choreographed performances by current SRU dance students. 

The Fresh Moves Dance Showcase will display a broad range of performances, including traditional Bharatanatyam pieces from students of Jaya Mani, an SRU professor of dance, and a historical reconstruction of modern dance pioneer Trisha Brown’s “Solo Olos.”

Palenque travels to Colombia

Over the summer, Slippery Rock University’s dance company, Palenque, traveled to Colombia to learn about the culture and bring back research to grow Palenque.

"Even though I’m not a Colombian myself, we do have very similar cultures as we are split up by one country just in between us. It’s Panama. So, it was just a way for me to get in touch with my culture..." Rodríguez-Alvarez said.

SRU’s annual Fresh Moves Dance Showcase returns Dec. 6-7
